Intern
Description  Hennepin County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team is seeking a motivated intern(s) who has intermediate GIS experience, is willing to contribute ideas and learn from others, and is able to successfully collaborate with colleagues to meet the county's GIS needs. The intern's primary responsibility will be performing GIS technical tasks related to updating, creating, and maintaining enterprise geodatabase layers, and will have the opportunity to work directly with experienced GIS professionals on a variety of data related projects and initiatives. Hennepin GIS is comprised of three teams; GIS Business Services, GIS Technical Services, and GIS Project Services. To learn more about Hennepin GIS, please visit  https://gis.hennepin.us/home/. Location and hours: This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center building in downtown Minneapolis, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487. This GIS intern will work approximately 10-20 hours per week from February 2019 through September 2019, with the possibility of the internship being extended through the remainder of the year. In this position, you will:  Perform data editing tasks within enterprise and file geodatabases. Maintain currency and completeness of enterprise data and ArcGIS Online content. Assist with completing metadata and documentation. Perform spatial analysis and map creation as needed. Participate on collaborative project teams. Perform technical support as needed. Need to Have: Current enrollment in a post-secondary level Geography or GIS program or a closely related field. Nice to Have: Understanding of basic GIS and spatial analysis principles. Experience: Editing GIS data using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Software (10.x). Performing georectification of aerial imagery using ArcGIS Desktop tools. With ArcGIS Online and associated applications. Knowledge of spatial database design principles and geodatabases. Knowledge of cartographic principles. Basic knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. Ability to: Present information and respond to questions from managers, staff, outside agencies, and the general public. Complete documentation procedures. Work under limited supervision. Work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues. The GIS intern will gain experience in the following areas: Desktop and web GIS. Spatial database editing. Spatial analysis.
